Ebtron FAQs
What is the IP rating?
The probes are weatherproof and rated up to 99% non-condensing as they are expected to operate in an HVAC environment i.e. measuring the flow of conditioned air. Nominally IP14 in the duct, but functionally compromised over 99% humidity. The transmitter is IP40 rated, so if the transmitter is to be installed externally or in a wet environment it should be mounted in a suitably rated enclosure.
Is the equipment ATEX (ATmospheres Explosible) rated?
ATEX means hazardous, potentially explosive environments or various categories, both gaseous (petrochemical mainly) and dusty such as flour mills, sawmills and some food processing plants. The products are not ATEX rated as they are outside the scope of HVAC installation.
Is Ebtron equipment rubber stamped/certified by anyone?
All Ebtron sensors are NIST certificated as standard. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is a non-regulatory federal agency under the Department of Commerce headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA. NIST certified products are tested in order to guarantee their accuracy. The certification standards are derived from Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) research, guidelines, and outreach efforts in computer security and collaborative activities with government, academic organizations, and their particular industry.
Does dust affect the readings?
Yes it does, however it is unlikely to happen as the product should be in an environment which has filtered air. Where dust may be a problem any build up should be monitored and the probes cleaned on a suitable schedule.
Is any maintenance needed once the product is installed?
No, there is no need for any maintenance of the product unless detritus has built up.
Is water an issue?
Water is only a problem in liquid form for the probes which work satisfactorily up to 99% humidity, however condensation will affect the readings. In a wet environment the transmitter should be installed in a suitable enclosure.
What is a thermistor?
A temperature sensitive resistor, the ones used by Ebtron are very high specification semiconductor devices.
Does the thermistor work in dry and or moist air?
The probes are designed to work in moist non-condensing air. The transmitter is suitable for use in normal environments but should be mounted in a suitable enclosure if the environmental conditions are harsh.
Why choose Ebtron?
Ebtron offers the only technology that will measure airflow in ducts accurately all the way down to still air and it is also used in a product family for differential air pressure measurement in which guise Ebtron can resolve to less than a Pascal plus reliably indicating the polarity of the differential pressure.
Where would I use Ebtron products?
Data centres, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, airports, prestige offices anywhere there is a demand for precise airflow or pressure differential measuring.
How much does it cost?
The price reflects the technology involved and depends on the number of sensor points required for a particular application. The price for a complete unit i.e. transmitter and probes can range from £500 to £5,000, but the average price is approximately £1K.
How long does it take to commission a sensor?
Generally the commissioning process is to turn on the unit set the duct parameters and read the values. On site calibration such as by pitot traverses is not required; this makes the commissioning efficient and repeatable saving time on site and therefore cost.
What about extreme environments?
The probes will operate over the full range of temperatures found in buildings across the globe, specifically -28 to +70° Celsius. Operational range of the transmitter is -28 to +48° Celsius.
Can I get CO2 readings from it?
No, this is not currently available from any Ebtron product that can be approved for sale in Europe.
Where is the equipment installed?
The probes are installed in ducts, suspended floors, walls etc, wherever the actual measurement is required to be made, the transmitter is installed up to a 15 metre cable run from the probes and if the environmental conditions are wet or dusty then the transmitter should be mounted in an enclosure.
